The Best Places to Propose, Marry, Elope, and more in the Porkies

For a more personal and experience-driven wedding, The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is truly one of the most memorable places in the Midwest.

Lake of the Clouds:

One of the most iconic views of the Upper Peninsula, The Lake of the Clouds offers panoramic views of the park that will stick with you for life. The overlook sits high above the forest, offering a perspective that stuns anytime, but becomes magical at sunrise, sunset, and especially in the peak of the fall color season. With a short, accessible hike comes a grand payoff. With less pressure and noise, this unforgettable spot will bring your love to the center of the day. The Lake of the Clouds is a popular spot for proposals and small ceremonies thanks to its grandeur and ease of access.

Union Bay Beach:

For a truly “Superior” experience, the miles of rocky shoreline along Lake Superior at Union Bay provide an open view of the horizon and are perfect for any gathering or proposal. For couples looking for a more low-key, quiet, natural backdrop, the beach is a perfect landing spot. Its rocky shoreline offers a great contrast for photographing your special day with the one you love.

Cloud Peak:

For adventurous pairs, Cloud Peak offers a more rugged experience for couples that crave a little more expedition and remote experience. This is a perfect spot for those looking to elope on their own in the wilderness, with expansive wilderness views and little to no crowds. Cloud Peak offers couples a lifetime, intimate experience sure to stay in their hearts forever.

Bonanza Falls:

Just outside of the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park in Silver City, the Bonanza Falls offer a wonderful spot for engagement photos or small ceremonies. The waterfall setting is beautiful on its own, but the rocky ledges and surrounding forests make the area feel mystical. These falls are fed by the Big Iron River and are easily accessible; you can nearly drive right up to them.

Presque Isle River:

As mentioned briefly above, the Presque Isle River is another iconic spot for proposals, private vows, or photos. With the rushing waterfalls, wooded trails, and magnificent overlooks, this river is a must-see while you’re in the area. The sound of the water within the dense forests will surround you with a secluded, blissful experience.
